Launch of One Consumer Facing Mark and Register for all Part P registered Electricians Confirmed
A new single mark and register for all electricians registered to carry out electrical work in homes in England and Wales have been confirmed to go live on the 30 June 2014.
The much anticipated Registered Competent Person Electrical mark and website
www.electricalcompetentperson.co.uk have been developed by all DCLG authorised Full Scope electrical Competent Person Scheme operators. It follows a recommendation from the Communities and Local Government Select Committee, to create a single point of reference for consumers seeking an electrician to carry out work in their home.
The recognisable mark and consumer focused website, featuring an easy to use search facility, are all designed to make finding a registered, competent electrician easier than ever before.
The mark combines the Registered Competent Person Electrical logo, an instantly recognisable house and plug socket design, with the Competent Person Scheme operator logo of the installer who displays it. This will ensure consumers have just one intuitive symbol to recognise but are still able to access the robust support, such as the work quality guarantee, available from individual scheme operators.
All Full Scope Part P registered electricians in England and Wales will be listed on the new register by their scheme operator and will be entitled and encouraged to use the new mark from the 30th June 2014, completely free of charge.
As a consumer focused activity, the register will not include electrical contractors who solely carry out commercial or industrial work.
An official launch event will take place on 2 July 2014 in the Palace of Westminster, where the Minister for Communities and Local Government, Stephen Williams MP, will give a key note speech to a wide array of key industry stakeholders and MPs, alongside NAPIT Group Chief Executive Officer, Michael Andrews and Chief Executive Officer of Certsure, Emma Clancy.
Commenting on the upcoming launch of the register, Michael Andrews said: “Registered Competent Person Electrical is a milestone achievement and a great step forward for the electrical industry. All Full Scope electricians carrying out electrical work in dwellings in England and Wales can be easily identified via the new mark and listed on a user-friendly register.”
Emma Clancy added: “The new website -
www.electricalcompetentperson.co.uk - will become the one stop shop for consumers looking to hire an electrician to carry out work in their home.
“With the support of all scheme operators and DCLG, and with the charity Electrical Safety First spearheading a targeted consumer marketing campaign, levels of consumer awareness will rise significantly.”
