NAPIT Support Landlords on Electrical Safety
NAPIT has joined forces with the Residential Landlords Association (RLA) to create an electrical safety course to help keep properties safe and provide peace of mind to landlords and tenants alike.
The one day Introduction to Electrical Safety course for landlords covers three crucial modules of electrical safety: basic electrical awareness, Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) and Portable Appliance Testing (PAT). It is designed to provide expert advice to help landlords avoid the risks of unsafe electrics while keeping tenants safe in their properties.
To find out more about the course, running on 29 July 2015, visit https://www.rla.org.uk/landlord/courses/introduction-to-electrical-safety.shtml
Robert Maccabe, Training Development & Advice Team Manager at the RLA, said: Ensuring your property is safe, legal and secure is a top priority for any landlord, and RLA training works to ensure that they have every resource to achieve this goal. We are grateful for the assistance of NAPIT as a nationally recognised organisation which, in conjunction with RLA, looks to improve electrical safety in the Private Rented Sector.
Ian Halton, the Training and Business Relationship Director at NAPIT, said: We are working closely with the RLA to make sure there is clear guidance on electrical safety to landlords. This will ensure the right checks are being carried out by properly trained, registered electrical installers.
In a recently launched series of campaign infographics, NAPIT have recommended that EICRs carried out on privately rented properties should be completed every 5 years by a competent, registered installer with experience and knowledge in inspecting and testing. This should be supported by an annual visual check, carried out by the landlord or responsible person, to ensure ongoing electrical safety between formal inspections.
